Title: Senior Systems & DevOps Engineer
Location: Remote
Job Type: Contract To Hire

Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Systems & DevOps Engineer to lead modernization efforts for a Linux-based Managed File Transfer (MFT) and integration environment. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in transforming manual, legacy workflows into automated, reliable, and repeatable DevOps practices. You will introduce CI/CD pipelines, improve reliability and observability, automate deployments, and mentor team members as the organization evolves from traditional processes to a more efficient, Agile, and modern engineering model.

This is a fully remote role with long-term growth potential, including the opportunity to become a lead voice in how core systems are designed and maintained over time.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for Linux-based applications and MFT-related platforms.
  • Automate installation, configuration, and updates for systems running on Red Hat Linux, including Tomcat and file-transfer services, leveraging scripting (Perl/Python) and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Modernize manual workflows by introducing automation, standardizing processes, and reducing operational toil.
  • Improve reliability and observability by enhancing logging, monitoring, and alerting practices and integrating them into clearer operational workflows.
  • Mentor and upskill team members, encouraging DevOps and Agile ways of working while supporting the shift from reactive operations to structured automation and continuous improvement.
  • Support platform operations, including troubleshooting, service configuration, and succession coverage for key system responsibilities.

Environment & Technology Stack
  • OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions (primary), evolving CI/CD ecosystem
  • Scripting: Perl, Python
  • Automation / IaC: Ansible, Terraform
  • Application Services: Tomcat on Linux, MFT-related platforms
  • Containers: Limited today; OpenShift adoption planned
  • Processes: Early-stage Agile/DevOps adoption; high opportunity for modernization
  • Team: Fully remote, supporting MFT, integration, and EDI systems with a heavy need for automation and efficiency

What You Bring (Must-Have Qualifications)
  • 5+ years of hands-on DevOps engineering experience, specifically building CI/CD pipelines from scratch.
  • Strong Unix/Linux fundamentals, including Red Hat Linux experience and the ability to install and configure services (e.g., Tomcat).
  • Experience driving modernization in less mature or highly manual environments.
  • Scripting proficiency in Perl or Python (Perl preferred for this role).
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions, with interest or experience in Ansible, Terraform, and containerization (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide peers toward modern engineering practices.

The projected hourly range for this position is $80 to $100.
