Job Title: Sr. Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) / Engineer
Job Location: Hybrid
Job Type: Direct Hire or Contract-to-Hire

Position Overview

Our client, a stable and mission-driven non-profit organization focused on educational equity and financial services, is seeking a Sr. Cloud DBA.

This role sits at the intersection of Database Administration and Data Engineering. You will join a collaborative team responsible for the organization's database engines, performance, and lifecycle, while acting as a consultative partner to development teams.

This is a high-impact role opening due to team changes and upcoming retirements. The team is looking for someone who can absorb deep institutional knowledge regarding the industry while helping modernize operations through automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hybrid Engineering & Admin: Perform both DBA and Engineering duties—managing server performance/capacity/security while also supporting schema design, query optimization, and data manipulation.

  • Cloud Management: Manage and optimize database environments primarily hosted on AWS RDS and Aurora.

  • DevOps Collaboration: Move beyond “point-and-click” management; collaborate with codebases, track changes, and implement programmatic solutions.

  • Automation: Develop scripts and utilities to automate database refreshes, monthly maintenance, and patching activities.

  • SDLC Support: Work within the software development lifecycle, moving from ideation to production, ensuring database changes are rolled out (or back) smoothly.

Technical Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant database administration experience.

  • Database Engines: Advanced experience with Oracle is required. Additional experience with SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL is highly preferred.

  • Cloud Platforms: Advanced experience with AWS database services (RDS, Aurora, Redshift).

  • Note: While AWS is preferred, strong Azure experience with a willingness to adapt to AWS will be considered.

  • Scripting: Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in Bash is required. Experience with Python or PowerShell is a plus.

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficient understanding of Terraform (or OpenTofu) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab) is preferred.

  • Change Management: Familiarity with tools like Liquibase is a plus, but can be learned on the job.

    What We Are Looking For

    • Candidates who are comfortable with the “Engineering” side of the role—you understand development practices and prefer scripting/coding solutions over manual GUI management (SSMS).

    • Someone willing to learn from and mentor within a small, tight-knit team.

    • A professional who wants to modernize database operations (automating patching, implementing SDLC for DB changes).

The projected hourly range for this position is $62 to $68.
