Job Title: Principal Data Analyst
Job Location: Hybrid
Job Type: Contract to Hire

Our client is growing its Pharmacy team and is looking for a Principal Data Analyst to serve as the go-to expert for pharmacy and PBM data, partnering closely with product, clinical, and engineering to improve member outcomes and manage drug spend.
This is a 6-month contract-to-hire, hybrid on-site role with a highly visible opportunity to shape analytics and data strategy for an integrated medical–pharmacy organization.

What you’ll do

  • Act as the primary PBM and pharmacy data expert for the team, working with Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacy Services, Actuarial/Finance, Care Management, Member Services, Network/Contracting, and Compliance.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to frame problems, define hypotheses, and map data requirements across eligibility, accumulators, formulary, claims adjudication, prior authorization, rebates, specialty pharmacy, utilization management, and adherence programs.
  • Translate business needs into clear, detailed user stories and acceptance criteria in Jira, ensuring requirements are technically sound and actionable for engineers.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to explore data, validate requirements, and support dashboards and analytics for pharmacy benefit performance.
  • Work side-by-side with engineers to identify where data lives, validate data mappings, and guide solutions that support integrated medical–pharmacy programs and PBM strategies.
  • Help drive analytics around PMPM drug spend and trend, specialty drug inflation, generic dispensing, formulary compliance, channel optimization (mail vs retail), prior auth turnaround times, and rebate performance.

What we’re looking for
  • Strong domain experience in pharmacy and PBM data (e.g., claims, formulary, benefit design, utilization management, specialty pharmacy).
  • Advanced SQL skills with experience querying large clinical or claims datasets in a healthcare or PBM environment.
  • Hands-on experience gathering technical requirements and writing high-quality user stories in Jira for data or analytics-focused work.
  • Working knowledge of key coding systems and standards such as NDC, GPI, RxNorm, ICD-10, CPT-4, and DRG; familiarity with NCPDP and/or HL7/FHIR is a plus.
  • Comfortable operating in an agile, cross-functional setting with product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
