Overview
The Engineering Director for Account & Portfolio Management has overall responsibility for implementing, modernizing, and owning the technology that enables financial product data, wealth management transactions, and investment management capabilities. This role partners with stakeholders to use business and technology context to evaluate results and determine future direction for technology products.
This leader is responsible for analyzing and resolving software development issues and needs across the full software lifecycle, empowering teams to utilize core capabilities and custom development to enable business objectives, and delivering high-quality, optimized technology solutions that support customer-centric business process changes.
Responsibilities:
• Set the vision for teams and empower them to design solutions
• Review overall and high-level design and provide feedback to the team
• Help the team understand the architecture strategy for the product groups and how it fits into the broader enterprise architecture
• Demonstrate critical thinking toward developing software
• Influence the team to use modern techniques and share technical insights
• Continuously seek innovative techniques and solutions to solve business problems and initiatives
• Promote collaboration and provide opportunities to recognize and celebrate successes
• Engage in product group sprint demos to understand capabilities delivered and outcomes achieved, and provide constructive feedback to foster continuous improvement
• Encourage engagement across product groups to share learnings and leverage best practices
• Understand the broader technology ecosystem and how product groups contribute to organizational outcomes
• Break down product group barriers that impede delivery and continuous improvement
• Build relationships across business and technology disciplines
• Bring teams together to solve strategic and complex problems collaboratively
• Create a common understanding and alignment on goals and strategies for the enterprise and technology organization
• Provide senior leadership visibility into team accomplishments
• Support rollout of new DevOps capabilities and version updates across teams
• Partner with product management to set platform and product technology vision and outcomes
• Provide mentorship and motivation to support execution of technology strategy
• Promote engineering practices and continuous improvement, including DevOps and observability
• Support development lifecycle processes and operational model guidelines
• Ensure operational health is well articulated and supports continuous improvement
• Create and promote cross-learning opportunities for engineers to onboard new DevOps practices
• Define criteria for selecting the right platforms and technologies
• Own overall technology solutions, platforms, and associated vendor relationships
• Provide direction and feedback in selecting technology vendors
• Hold regular 1:1s with direct reports and periodic skip levels and team meetings
• Provide opportunities and frameworks for career growth
• Give constructive feedback and coaching to help engineering managers grow their skills and experience
• Plan in advance for future people needs and collaborate with teams on recruitment
• Drive the hiring process for engineering managers and engineers
• Engage in the tech community to build the technology brand and employer presence in the market
• Recruit, develop, and sustain a high-performing team while promoting shared accountability, operational excellence, and partnership
• Support a culture of continuous improvement, employee engagement, and commitment to clients
• Manage a team of direct and indirect staff
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of progressively responsible positions in Information Technology including 5+ years’ management or supervisory experience in a specific IT functional area
• Strong leader with a demonstrated track record recruiting and developing teams in current- and next-generation platforms and systems’ needs
• Demonstrated experience in creating, leading, and implementing large scale strategic projects
• Strong communication skills and excellence in negotiation with business partners
• Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership, lines of business stakeholders, and technology staff across the organization
• Background in information delivery including BI/analytic reporting, operational reporting, KPIs, using reporting services
• Experience in development of business strategies, Center of Expense strategies and delivery of enterprise data services
Preferred Qualifications:
• MBA
• Financial Services industry experience
• Experience in IT planning and business relationship management
• Experience working in a matrix management organization
• Experience with product development and management
The projected hourly range for this position is $80 to $120.
